“…The present study differed from a study in Duhok city by Hasan et al (2020), by which LT toxin solely identified in 37% of the cases [30], whereas seven strains positive for LT gene and three strains positive for ST were identified by Khalil (2015) in Bagdad [32]. [36], [37], [46], [49].…”

“…PCR-based studies detected showed different percentage rates of ETEC in stool samples ranging from 18% to 26% [30], [32], [36], [40], [41]. Results of this study were not parallel to conclusions mentioned by other investigators who reported lower percentage rates of positive results [34], [37].…”

“…Diarrheagenic Escherichia coli (DEC) is an important agent of epidemic diarrhea worldwide especially in some underdeveloped areas with poor sanitation among bacterial pathogens (Gomes et al, 2016). DEC can be divided into five categories according to its virulence characteristics: enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC), enteroinvasive E. coli (EIEC), enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC), and Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) (Shahbazi et al, 2021). Strains can be identified according to the characteristic virulence genes of different DEC categories: stx1, stx2, and eae in STEC; aggR and astA in EAEC; invE and ipaH in EIEC; est and elt in ETEC.…”

“…In this study, solvent-sensitive nanoparticles (SSNPs), a kind of stimulus-responsive nanoparticle, were first developed to enhance the efficiency of MELGA and detect pathogenic enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC). This pathogen causes more than 400 million diarrhoeagenic cases per year, resulting in 300,000-500,000 casualties, which mostly occur in young children in developing countries [12][13][14][15][16] . Since PCR-based molecular assays are the only way to distinguish ETEC from other E. coli 12,16,17 , these assays need to be improved for efficient detection 13,18 .…”
