Microbes in buildings have attracted extensive attention from both the research community and the general public due to their close relationship with human health. However, there still lacks comprehensive information on the indoor exposure level of microbes in China. This study systematically reviews exposure levels, the community structures, and the impact factors of airborne bacteria and fungi in residences, schools, and offices in China. We reviewed the major literature databases between 1980 and 2019 and selected 55 original studies based on a set of criteria. Results show that the concentration of indoor bacteria varies from 72.5 to 7500 CFU/m 3 , with a median value of 1000 CFU/m 3 , and the concentration of fungi varies from 12 to 9730 CFU/m 3 , with a median value of 526 CFU/m 3. The concentration level of microbes varies in different climate zones, with higher bacterial concentrations in the severe cold zone, and higher fungal concentrations in the hot summer and warm winter zone. Among different buildings, classrooms have the highest average bacteria and fungi levels. This review reveals that a unified assessment system based on health effects is needed for evaluating the exposure levels of bacteria and fungi.

The microbial metagenome characteristics of bioaerosols and particulate matter (PM) in the outdoor atmospheric environment and the effects of climate and environmental factors on the metagenome were analyzed. The concentrations of bacteria and fungi in bioaerosols and PM were determined by sampling different regions with different environmental properties. A variety of culture-independent methods were used to analyze the microbial metagenome in aerosols and PM samples. In addition, the effects of meteorological and environmental factors on the diversity and metagenomes of bacteria and fungi were investigated. The survival, growth, and dispersal of the microorganisms in the atmosphere were markedly affected by local weather conditions and the air pollutant concentration. The concentration of airborne microorganisms increased as the temperature increased, but their concentration decreased in summer, due to the effects of high temperatures and strong ultraviolet rays. Humidity and microbial concentration were positively correlated, but when the humidity was too high, the dispersion of airborne microorganisms was inhibited. These comprehensive data on the microbial metagenome in bioaerosols and PM may be used to understand the roles and functions of microorganisms in the atmosphere, and to develop strategies and abatement techniques to address the environmental and public health problems caused by these microorganisms.

In recent years, Vietnam has experienced urbanization and industrialization, leading to potential air pollution and climate change risks. To reduce these negative consequences of economic development, Vietnam has promoted a low-carbon economy (LCE) by setting many goals for green growth, air pollution reduction, and increasing the absorption capacity of greenhouse gases (GHGs) in many industrial sectors. However, there is still a lack of a specified policy to promote these goals systematically. This study proposes a set of criteria that could be used to evaluate and certify low-carbon industrial parks (LCIPs). The criteria were developed using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP), expert opinion, data normalization, and carbon emission calculation. The set of criteria includes five groups of indicators with eighteen criteria for evaluating LCIPs, which can be applied in Vietnam’s contexts. Using such an index system to Trang Bang IP in the period 2016–2020 as a case study, the results show that the Trang Bang has yet to meet the criteria of LCIPs, particularly in terms of energy consumption and GHGs emission.
