Characteristics and potential ecological risks of heavy metal pollution in surface soil around coal-fired power plant

Abstract: measured, the distribution characteristics of heavy metals in different wind directions were analyzed, and the pollution degree of heavy metal in soil was evaluated. The soil around the power plant is generally polluted by heavy metals, and the degree of pollution is heavy pollution and moderate pollution. The potential ecological hazard of heavy metals in soil is moderate or slight. The values of Nemerow index and potential ecological risk index are different among different directions and different distances… Show more

“…The high values of soil heavy metal elements in the heavily polluted areas appear near metal smelters and residential areas with frequent human activities, indicating that the accumulation of heavy metal elements in soil is affected by metal smelting and more complex human activities. This conclusion is consistent with Hu’s research [ 47 ].…”

“…The evaluation of heavy metal pollution in sludge can provide a basis for pollution prevention and control and the resource utilization of sludge. Many studies have proposed a variety of heavy metal pollution assessment methods, such as the geological accumulation index (index of geo accumulation, Igeo) [24], Nemerow aggregation index (NPI) [25], risk assessment code (RAC) [26,27], potential ecological risk factor (ER), and risk index (RI) [28]. Different evaluation methods are widely used to evaluate various environmental samples.…”
