“… reported a lower prevalence of SBIs (7.2%) and IBIs (0.4%) from data collected between 2004 and 2006, which could be explained by the high level of vaccine coverage and herd immunity in Australia . However, despite suboptimal vaccination coverage in France, IBIs have decreased in recent years following steady advances in the pneumococcal conjugate and the decrease in group C invasive meningococcal disease .…”

“…This prospective study of children under the age of five presenting with FWS in a university PED in France reported that SBIs and IBIs occurred in 11.9% (95% CI: 10.1%-14.0%) and 1.0% (95% CI: 0.4%-1.6%), respectively. the pneumococcal conjugate and the decrease in group C invasive meningococcal disease (22,23).…”

“…As in England, the epidemiology of MenW disease has changed substantially since 2000 in France. An increase of MenW disease associated with the Hajj strain was also observed in the early 2000s, but quickly receded and MenW caused few cases during 2006-2011 [23,31]. Unlike in England, however, new cases of the Hajj strain were reported from 2012, but the increase was transient and mostly associated with recent travel to sub-Saharan countries [54,55].…”

“…Data in France were provided by the National Reference Centre for Meningococci [31]. These data consisted of the age-stratified counts of non-MenW:cc11 IMD cases during 2010/2011-2016/2017 and of MenW:cc11/ SA cases during 2012/2013-2018/2019 [23].…”

“…We screened the database of the French National reference centre for meningococci and Haemophilus in uenzae (NRCMHi) for biologically con rmed IMD cases (meningococci detected by culture and/or from a normally sterile site) and compared data for the period between 01 January and 15 May of 2019 and 2020. Meningococcal isolates are sent to the NRCMHi for full typing (MLST and WGS) as part of the mandatory reporting of IMD (9). A total of 305 cases of IMD were received at the NRCMHi for the two studied periods (176 in 2019 and 129 in 2020).…”
