Characteristic of Sediment at Lekok Coastal Waters, Pasuruan Regency, East Java

Abstract: Sedimentation is one of the dynamics that occur in coastal areas to determine the condition of the coast. Lekok coastal water is one of the open water areas that have very fluctuating dynamics in coastal changes. The structural study of sediment distribution conducted in this location is used to provide information about the process of transportation and sedimentation based on the distribution of sediment grain size. This study aims to determine the horizontal grain sediment size in the Lekok coastal waters. T… Show more

“…This is because both locations are slightly far from the high activity of the city of Manokwari with carbonate. Additionally, it is coarser than silt and contains more than 50% carbonate material; hence, sediments' adsorption of heavy metals is lower (Anggraini et al 2020).…”

“…Seagrass beds also affect the ability of incoming waves and currents to transport particles. These conditions modify the oceanographic environment by (i) attenuating currents and wave energy losses, (ii) changing the velocity profile near the bottom to prevent affecting the thicker boundary layer, and (iii) increasing or decreasing turbulence and promoting material transport (Potouroglou et al 2017;Lanuru et al 2018;Anggraini, Yanuhar and Risjani 2020). Additionally, the ability to inhibit sediment movement has been reported (Roem et al 2021a).…”

“…The nutrient analysis was conducted by spectrophotometer (Model AMV01 AMTAST, USA), as described in a previous study (Emilia, 2019). Soil and sediment samples from the two sampling stations were analyzed using the gravimetric triangle method to determine the criteria, the percentage of sediment composition, and the type of constituent textures (Anggraini et al, 2020).…”

“…Sediment grain size analysis has been conducted using sieving and pipetting methods (Romano et al, 2017). Then, to determine the type of sediment substrate (gravel, sand, mud, and clay) using Shepard's triangle analysis with Microsoft Excel V.2021 (Poppe and Eliason, 2008;Anggraini et al, 2020). The determination of sediment fraction type was based on the most significant composition value from the data.…”
