Characteristic Odor Components ofCitrus reticulataBlanco (Ponkan) Cold-pressed Oil

Abstract: Citrus reticulata Blanco (ponkan) cold-pressed oil and its oxygenated fraction were studied by analytical (GC and GC/MS) and sensory analyses. The monoterpene group was predominant, accounting for more than 89.6% (w/w), of which limonene was the most abundant (80.3%). Among the oxygenated compounds, octanal and decanal were the major ones among 12 aldehydes accounting for >1.5%; six alcohols were identified with a total concentration of >0.7%, while oxides, ketones and esters did not quantitatively or qualitat… Show more

“…Linalool was an abundant compound in most citrus groups, especially in the orange and mandarin groups. Linalool, limonene, and geranial were the most detected compounds in the essential oil and cold-pressed oil of mandarins, 15,21) bergamot, 22) and lime. 23) Among all the selected citrus species, the volatile profile of kumquat, which belongs to the Fortunella genus, was very different from that of the Citrus genus.…”

“…Japanese sour citrus, citron, and lime have low levels of d-limonene and high levels of esters or aldehydes (Akakabe et al, 2008a;Belsito et al, 2007;Choi andSawamura, 2001, 2002;Choi et al, 2002;Gariele et al, 2009;Phi et al, 2006Phi et al, , 2009Sawamura, 2008;Sawamura et al, 2004;Takeuchi et al, 2005;Yadav et al, 2004). Both immature and mature 'Ogimikuganii' showed the same high levels of γ-terpinene as lime and lemon.…”

“…From that point of view, the CitEST Project is a great source of information concerning gene expression patterns of flavedo as a support to gene expression analysis during fruit development and ripening. Moreover, even though the juice is undoubtedly the most important orange product, growing attention has been paid to citrus flavedoderived compounds such as flavonoids (Frydman et al, 2005) and essential oils (Sawamura et al, 2004;Souza et al, 2005).…”
