Characteristic Analysis of the Peak Braking Force and the Critical Speed of Eddy Current Braking in a High-Speed Maglev

Abstract: In the eddy current braking system of high-speed maglev, the peak braking force and the critical speed are key factors determining the performance of eddy current braking force. In this paper, the analytical formula of eddy current braking force is derived by a subdomain method considering the skin effect of the induction plate, and, subsequently, the characteristics of peak braking force and critical speed are analyzed. The analytical model is set up in a 2D Cartesian coordinate system. The Poisson equations … Show more

“…However, the equal wear braking strategy will use air braking force from all carriages, and the force will be distributed according to the load ratio and brake disc ratio. Fig 3 and Fig 4 show the braking force distribution for both braking strategies [10] . Furthermore, there is also a braking strategy called the equal deceleration braking strategy, which is generally only used when the train brakes urgently.…”

“…Multi-phase motor drives have strong application requirements in the high-reliability of multi-electric aircraft, ships and EVs due to their higher power density, lower torque ripple and superior fault tolerant capability [1][2][3]. However, the fault probability rises with an increase in the number of current sensors.…”

“…Bartlett W D [8] investigated the braking response characteristics of a pneumatic braking system on a four-axle heavy truck during the road test. Chen Shanshan [9] has built a combined braking system model for a semi-trailer heavy equipment transporter, including a service brake and a hydraulic retarder, analyzed the downhill braking characteristics and the braking directional stability, and finally proposed a scheme that can improve the braking delay for multi-axle heavy trucks.…”
