Abstract:We show that the class of large‐type Artin groups is invariant under isomorphism, in stark contrast with the corresponding situation for Coxeter groups. We obtain this result by providing a purely algebraic characterisation of large‐type Artin groups (i.e. independent of the presentation graph). As a corollary, we completely describe the Artin groups isomorphic to a given large‐type Artin group, and characterise those large‐type Artin groups that are rigid.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
