Characterisation and Modelling of Barium Titanate-Silver Composites

Abstract: Barium titanate-silver particulate composites were prepared by attrition milling BaTiO 3 and silver nitrate, followed by conventional processing. After manufacture, microstructural, mechanical and electrical characterisation was undertaken to examine the influence of silver addition on properties. The effect of the addition of conductive inclusions in a capacitive matrix on properties, such as permittivity, was simulated using a random network of resistors and capacitors. Model results were compared with exper… Show more

“…The insulator-metal transitions are characterized by an abrupt change in conductivity [5]. Panteny et al [34] reported that addition of silver in ceramics increases the conductivity and decreases the dielectric strength. In BST-Ag composite, conductivity increases with silver content and the dielectric strength may also decrease.…”
