However, debenzylation of compound 24 under standard catalytic hydrogenolysis conditions (H 2 , Pd(OH) 2 or Pd/C, EtOH) did not afford compound 5 at all: it gave just a complex mixture of products. When compound 24 was treated with palladium on charcoal and 1,4-cyclohexadiene in EtOH, [26] it gave the desired deprotected compound in 80 % yield, though the reaction was very sluggish.…”
