Chaperones in hepatitis C virus infection

Abstract: The hepatitis C virus (HCV) infects approximately 3% of the world population or more than 185 million people worldwide. Each year, an estimated 350000-500000 deaths occur worldwide due to HCV-associated diseases including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. HCV is the most common indication for liver transplantation in patients with cirrhosis worldwide. HCV is an enveloped RNA virus classified in the genus Hepacivirus in the Flaviviridae family. The HCV viral life cycle in a cell can be divided into six ph… Show more

“…FKBP52 knockdown decreases NS1 secretion while viral release was not affected. HSP90 has been associated with viral replication of chikungunya virus, Arteriviridae viruses, and hepatitis C virus and has a minor effect on DENV replication (37)(38)(39)(40). However, our results indicate that HSP90 is not associated with NS1 secretion (Fig.…”

“…The propagation of HCV in hepatocytes involves interaction with cellular chaperones through numerousp athways. [28] Hsp90 contributes to the maturation,f olding, and stability of severalp roteins required for HCV replication. [29] As shown in previouss tudies, targeting Hsp90 efficiently inhibitsH CV replication.…”
