Abstract:As in any other transmission systems, signals transported in optical WDM networks suffer from various kinds of distortions and impairments. Optical amplifiers give rise to amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) noise. Network components such as optical cross-connects (OXCs) and optical add-drop multiplexers (OADM) introduce both interband and intraband crosstalk. Different kinds of dispersion including chromatic dispersion, polarization mode dispersion (PDM) are limiting factors in today's longhaul transmission … Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
