“…After dietary treatment alone, at least during the initial stage of treatment, also a loss of lean body mass was found repeatedly (1-4'). Physical exercise practiced for several hours per day under similar conditions prevented the loss of body protein completely (6) and according to the nitrogen balance and hydrostatic weighing, the weight decrement was made up of fat only; a certain nitrogen retention could even be observed (5,15). If a similar effect could be obtained by the adminis tration of anabolic preparations, it may be assumed that obesity will be favourably influenced also in subjects who for various reasons cannot participate in physical exercise, or at least not to a sufficient extent.…”
