Abstract:A continuous supply of O2 to cells in a mammalian organism is necessary to maintain normal physiological function and the microcirculation is especially important in this matter as it is the site of O2 exchange. Under conditions of active/functional hyperemia following muscle contraction, the O2 transport system in older subjects does not appear to respond as rapidly and to the same degree as in younger subjects. With aging, elements of the O2 transport and regulatory system are changed in such a way that matc… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
