“…A frequent activity within both their home ( Axelsson and Wilder, 2014 ) and school lives ( Maes et al, 2010 ), music is reported to affect the mood, communication, and playfulness of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities ( Rushton and Kossyvaki, 2020 , 2022 ). Whilst there is not a universally agreed definition of the characteristics of people with profound and multiple learning disabilities ( Nind and Strnadová, 2020 ), this heterogenous population have a profound intellectual disability often combined with physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex medical needs ( Doukas et al, 2017 ).
