Abstract: Since the mid-1990s important decreases in tuberculosis have been observed in HIV-seroconverters that probably reflect the impact of both HAART and tuberculosis control programmes.

“…Thus, cumulative incidence of Tuberculosis (21.4%) reported in this study was lower than study done in former capital of Tanzania, Dares Salaam (27.1%) and study done in North west Ethiopia (Debre Markos hospital) (44%) [21]. But, the finding was higher than studies done in Spain and Brazil which were 7.7% [22], and 4.62% [23] respectively. Higher incidence rate could be explained by the fact that unlike these two countries, Ethiopia is one of the high TB burden countries in the world [24] besides advanced economic development compared to Ethiopia might improve HIV chronic care and reduce occurrence of TB.…”

“…16,20 It is important to identify undiagnosed HIV patients early as effective anti-retroviral treatment is currently available, and treatment has been shown to decrease the risk of developing TB subsequently. 21 End-stage renal failure significantly weakens the patient's immunity, and this increases their susceptibility to develop TB as well. 22,23 Diabetes mellitus is one of the most common chronic metabolic disorders in developed countries, and it can lead to end-stage renal failure.…”

“…This reflects the more prominent transmission of HIV through males having sex with males and via injection of drugs, since a higher proportion of drug users is male [31,32]. Co-infection was more prevalent in the 15-45-yr age group in five studies, reflecting the higher proportion of HIV in this group, or more frequent HIV testing in young adult TB cases [21,29,30]. Five out of seven countries where the data were available showed a majority of the TB-HIV co-infected patients to be born abroad.…”
