Changes in plasma alpha 1-acid glycoprotein concentration and selected immune response in broiler chickens injected with Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide

Abstract: 1. Changes in plasma alpha 1-acid glycoprotein (AGP) concentration and immune responses following Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide (LPS) injection were studied in broiler chickens. 2. Higher plasma AGP concentrations were observed from 12 to 48 h after a single injection of LPS. 3. The highest concentration of plasma AGP was observed on day 2 followed by a gradual decrease in chicks injected with 150 micrograms/kg body weight of LPS every day for 13 d. 4. Plasma AGP concentration in chicks injected daily wi… Show more

“…The tendency of the simulated CV in the acute phase and antibody response across time initially to decrease with time after antigen exposure and subsequently (after the peak response) to increase again reflected the pattern of observed variability in the literature in some cases (Figure 9a, Trout et al, 1988;Kreukniet and van der Zijpp, 1990;Leitner et al, 1992;Takahashi et al, 1998;Jarosinski et al, 2002;Xie et al, 2002b;Bar-Shira and Friedman, 2006). Overall, the large variations in immunocompetence and immunoresponsiveness created by the stochastic simulation model are in agreement with the large ranges of CV observed in published studies.…”

“…It is known that measurement of plasma AGP and zinc concentration and IL-1 like activity are useful for the evaluation of certain conditions of disease and stress (Fleck, 1989;Takahashi, et al, 1994Takahashi, et al, , 1998. The measurement procedure for IL-1 like activity used in this experiment is not specific to determine IL-1 production or release.…”

“…a 1 -Acid glycoprotein, ceruloplasmin, transferrin, fibronectin and serum amyloid A are important acute phase proteins in serum that are known to increase in concentration in poultry during an inflammatory response (Curtis & Butler, 1980;Nakamura et al, 1998;Takahashi et al, 1998;Chamanza et al, 1999). Repeated administration of LPS reduces the response, but the mechanisms responsible for this phenomenon have not yet been elucidated.…”
