“…Ohkoshi et al [20], in their prospective study of 25 patients, have shown that there were no statistically significant differences between the preharvest and postharvest peak torque values of the donor knee 1 year after harvesting of the semitendinosus tendon. However, some recent studies have shown that the loss of knee flexor strength following the harvest of the hamstring tendons may be more significant than had been previously estimated.…”

“…The peak torque is generated at low knee fl exion angles (15-30°), and at those angles the biceps femoris muscle is the primary knee fl exor [ 25 ]. Both Ohkoshi et al [ 23 ] and Adachi et al [ 1 ] found that the peak torque was generated at shallower angles after ACL reconstruction with ST or ST/G autograft indicating that muscles that are active at lower fl exion angles such as biceps femoris have undergone hypertrophy. Further studies have shown that the semimembranosus and biceps femoris undergo compensatory hypertrophy after harvest of the ST/G or ST alone [ 7 , 14 , 36 ].…”
