Changes in metabolic nutrients utilization and alterations in biochemical and haematological indices in broilers fed graded levels of dietary Moringa oleifera

Abstract: Graded levels of full-fat undecorticated Moringa oleifera seed meal (MOSM) were evaluated in diets of 96-day old broilers at 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5% while a maize-soybean diet was used as a reference diet. Nutrients utilization by the broilers and effects of the virgin dietary MOSMon serum chemistry, haematology and some bio-data-protein efficiency ratio (PER) and nitrogen metabolism (NM) were used as response criteria for the evaluation. The metabolic utilization of nutrients, most of the serum chemistry and haemat… Show more

“…It is a strong indication that the protein of the diets was efficiently utilized. The result differs from Annongu et al (2015) who reported reduced serum total protein, albumin and globulin with graded levels of untreated Moringa seed meal. Total protein, serum albumin, serum globulin is indication of the protein retained in the animal body (Akinola andAbiola, 1999 andEsonu et al, 2001).…”

“…Hence, birds with low white blood cells are exposed to high risk of disease infection meanwhile those with high counts have high degree of resistance to disease and enhanced adaptability to local environmental and disease prevalent condition (Afolayan et al, 2020). This observation was at variance with the report of Annongu et al (2015) who reported decrease in WBC, MCV and MCH with increasing levels of MOSM. The report is in accordance with work of Seotan (2013), Isaac et al (2013) and Afolayan et al (2020).…”

“…De todos los aminoácidos, la metionina es la más tóxica cuando está en exceso. La inclusión de metionina en la dieta por encima del 0,25% puede ser de riesgo para la salud en aves de corral en un ambiente tropical (Annongu et al, 2014).…”
