As a politically and culturally important city cluster, the Beijing–Tianjin–Hebei (BTH) region is the most prominent area in China where the imbalance between the supply and demand of water resources restricts the sustainable and healthy development of the regional social economy. In the context of global warming, research into water demand prediction that takes climate change into consideration would be more in line with the strategic goal of the low-carbon sustainable development of future cities. At the same time, the prediction of agricultural water demands against a background of climate change is urgently needed, while industrial water consumption is weakly correlated with climate change, an investigation of the statistical relationship between the two is needed. Thus, in this paper, future climate data from the BTH region under the scenarios RCP2.6, RCP4.5 and RCP8.5 were generated using a statistical downscaling model, and then coupled with agricultural and industrial water demand prediction models to simulate and analyze the impact of climate change on the agricultural and industrial water demands, respectively. The results show that during the forecast period (2020–2035), the reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) growth rates in the Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei areas under the RCP2.6 scenario are 1.438 mm·a−1, 1.393 mm·a−1 and 2.059 mm·a−1, respectively. Under the RCP4.5 scenario, they are 2.252 mm·a−1, 2.310 mm·a−1 and 2.827 mm·a−1, respectively. Under the RCP8.5 scenario, they are 3.123 mm·a−1, 2.310 mm·a−1 and 2.141 mm·a−1, respectively. Furthermore, under each climate scenario, the increase in evapotranspiration in the Hebei area is the largest, followed by that in the Tianjin area, and that in the Beijing area is the smallest. For water consumption per CNY 10,000 of industrial added value during the forecast period, under the three different climate scenarios, a downward trend is seen in the Beijing area, with rates of 0.158, 0.153 and 0.110, respectively, but in the Tianjin area, there is an upward trend, with an upward tendency in rates of 0.170, 0.087 and 0.071, and an upward trend in the Hebei area, with an upward tendency in rates of 0.254, 0.071 and 0.036, respectively. This study will help the BTH region to rationally allocate agricultural and industrial water against the background of future climate change, and strengthen the coordination and cooperation between the different regions to promote the healthy and sustainable development of the cities.

A trial was conducted to investigate the growth and production characteristics of four plant species, marking the initiation of research on roadside revegetation processes in the southern region of Piauí state, Brazil. The trial was conducted in greenhouse conditions to evaluate the response of the species—two native legumes (Arachis pintoi and Stylosanthes macrocephala) and two grasses (Brachiaria humidicula—non-native and Paspalum notatum—native)—under different fertilization and irrigation treatments. Data were collected in two harvest operations, measuring the following variables: total plant height, population density per pot, number of live leaves, plant moisture content, total forage biomass, and root biomass. The results suggested that fertilization and irrigation caused no significant effect on the major species development characteristics that allay with the highway agency interests. Arachis pintoi showed the best results with the lowest height (24.1 cm in Experiment 1 and 19.2 cm in Experiment 2) and the greatest total forage biomass yield (6.4 g plant−1 in Experiment 1 and 4.1 g plant−1 in Experiment 2). Thus, we recommend that the results found in this study should be extended to field experiments and long-term research. Because our study did not explore mixed-species designs, adopting such evaluation could offer advantages in achieving more comprehensive and resilient revegetation outcomes and help decision-making regarding target species to compose the roadside revegetation operations.

O processamento automatizado dos dados da plataforma MapBiomas tem sido amplamente utilizado para o mapeamento do uso e cobertura do solo. No entanto, podem ocorrer confusões devido à escala temporal e à diversificação das atividades de ocupação. Nesse contexto, este trabalho teve como objetivo apresentar uma abordagem manual para aumentar a precisão das classes de uso e cobertura do solo no município de Meridiano. A abordagem adotada consistiu na correção e inserção de novas camadas utilizando imagens dos satélites Google Earth Pro e RapidEye, que foram posteriormente verificadas por validação terrestre. Os resultados revelaram melhorias significativas, especialmente na classificação de áreas inicialmente identificadas como mosaico de agricultura e pastagem, que totalizavam 4907 hectares. Após as correções, essas áreas foram distribuídas entre as culturas de cana-de-açúcar, citrus e vegetações campestres. Além disso, houve um aumento significativo na classe de silvicultura, que anteriormente havia sido confundida com formações florestais devido à predominância de heveicultura já de porte alto. A precisão obtida na caracterização do uso e ocupação do solo forneceu informações valiosas sobre a utilização da terra e as atividades econômicas predominantes, contribuindo para a compreensão e monitoramento das mudanças ambientais. Embora a metodologia tenha se mostrado adequada e de fácil aplicação, é importante ressaltar que pode ser limitada em áreas maiores devido à necessidade de procedimentos manuais extensos e detalhados. Por fim, destaca-se a relevância da utilização da Coleção 6 do MapBiomas neste estudo, que proporcionou uma base consistente e atualizada para o mapeamento do uso e cobertura do solo.
