“…4), MBCD, either alone or in combination with fungal elicitors, induced a high secretion, whereas control and fungal elicitor-treated CSC maintained more than 50% of produced paclitaxel inside C. avellana cells. Facilitating paclitaxel secretion from cells into the medium in MBCD-pretreated CSCs was reported in previous studies 40,42 . MBCD, through the chemical structure, facilitates paclitaxel secretion from cells into the medium and mitigates feedback inhibition.…”

“…These results show a synergistic effect of MBCD and CW on paclitaxel biosynthesis in C. avellana cell culture. The previous studies reported the synergistic effect of MBCD and methyl jasmonate 42 or coronatine 40 on paclitaxel biosynthesis in Taxus cell culture, but this is the first report on the synergistic effect of MBCD and fungal elicitor (CW) on paclitaxel biosynthesis. Intra-and extracellular paclitaxel of MBCD-pretreated CSC exposed with 2.5% (v/v) of C. palmarum CW on 17 th day of cell culture cycle were 86.0 μg L −1 (1.8-fold) and 316.5 μg l −1 (14-fold), respectively.…”

“…Therefore, both Cor and methyl jasmonate produced a synergistic effect on trans-R biosynthesis in the presence of CD indicating that Cor was able to mimic the biologically active form of jasmonic acid, methyl jasmonate. A synergistic effect of CD and Cor on taxane production was also observed by Ramirez-Estrada et al (2015) in Taxus SCC. In fact, the combined treatment provoked an increase over 40-and 17.6-fold higher than in the control cells in Taxus media and T. globosa SCC, respectively.…”

“…This fact was also observed by Lijavetzky et al (2008) who showed that STS expression was highly induced by methyl jasmonate but no significant amounts of extracellular trans-R were detected. Similar studies were performed by Ramirez-Estrada et al (2015) who analyzed the expression pattern of genes in Taxus SCC elicited with Cor and CD separately or in combination. In agreement with our results, these authors also observed that despite the fact that the expression of the two genes encoding enzymes directly responsible for the formation of taxol was higher in the cell cultures treated only with Cor, the highest production of this taxane was obtained under CD plus Cor elicitation.…”
