Changes in event-related brain responses and habituation during child development – A systematic literature review

Abstract: ObjectiveThis systematic review highlights the influence of developmental changes of the central nervous system on habituation assessment during child development. Therefore, studies on age dependant changes in event-related brain responses as well as studies on behavioural and neurophysiological habituation during child development are compiled and discussed. MethodsTwo PubMed searches with terms "(development evoked brain response (fetus OR neonate OR children) (electroencephalography OR magnetoencephalograp… Show more

“…A literature review published in 2019 analysed all the electrophysiological studies that had investigated habituation in developing children. 38 In electroencephalography studies, the evoked response potentials (ERPs) and mismatch negativity (MMN) are of interest. The different ERPs elicited to a familiar or deviant stimulus have been recorded.…”

“…Many electrophysiological studies have been conducted during habituation studies. A literature review published in 2019 analysed all the electrophysiological studies that had investigated habituation in developing children 38 . “…Previous reviews on ultrasound medical images for pregnant women using AI techniques have not been thoroughly conducted. Early reviews have attempted to summarize the use of AI in the prenatal period ( Al-yousif et al., 2021 ; Arjunan and Thomas, 2020 ; Avola et al., 2021 ; Davidson and Boland, 2021 ; Garcia-Canadilla et al., 2020 ; Hartkopf et al., 2019 ; Kaur et al., 2017 ; Komatsu et al., 2021a ; Shiney et al., 2017 ; Torrents-Barrena et al., 2019 ). However, these reviews are not comprehensive because they only target specific issues such as fetal cardiac function ( Garcia-Canadilla et al., 2020 ), Down syndrome ( Arjunan and Thomas, 2020 ), and fetal CNS ( Hartkopf et al., 2019 ).…”

Similarly, other reviews have not focused on AI techniques and ultrasound images as the primary intervention ( Kaur et al., 2017 ; Shiney et al., 2017 ; Torrents-Barrena et al., 2019 ).…”

“…The process of habituation through school culture in this study is to instill student awareness related to the values of Pancasila which is the ideology and outlook on life of the Indonesian nation. The process of habituation is the basis of learning manifested in development to assess cognitive functions that can be known from observations (behavior changes) and neurophysiological measurements (the brain's response to events) [20]. Habits and goals can also lead to decision making which is a fundamental process of adaptive behavior (Schreiner, et.al., 2020).…”
