Changes in choroidal blood flow and choroidal thickness after treatment in two cases of pediatric anisohypermetropic amblyopia

Abstract: PurposeWe aimed to examine the changes in choroidal blood flow (CBF) and central choroidal thickness (CCT) in children with anisohypermetropic amblyopia using laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG) and enhanced depth imaging optical coherence tomography (EDI-OCT).ObservationsThe patients were both 6-year-old Japanese male children with complaints of worsening right visual acuity and were diagnosed with anisohypermetropic amblyopia. The decimal best-corrected visual acuities (BCVAs) in cases 1 and 2 were both 0.5. In … Show more

“…Laser speckle flowgraphy (LSFG-NAVI®, Softcare Co. Ltd., Fukuoka, Japan) is a non-invasive quantitative method that is very useful for measuring and assessing choroidal blood flow (CBF) 7 , 8 and pulse waveforms 9 based on the changes in the speckle pattern of the reflection of laser light from the fundus photo. 10 The mean blur rate (MBR) is a parameter of blood flow speed.…”

“…Recent studies have shown that the MBR in the ONH measured using LSFG was significantly correlated with actual ONH blood flow measured using the microsphere method in monkey eyes [ 25 ] and using the hydrogen gas clearance method in rabbits [ 26 , 27 ]. Furthermore, LSFG is a useful devise to examine the blood flow in the ONH [ 19 27 ], retinal vessels [ 28 30 ], and choroid [ 31 34 ].…”
