“…All this would explain the observed lack of correlation between DOM component concentrations, and either diel variations or differences between sampling depths. A study conducted from 1996 to 1998 in this system indicated that polysaccharides and DCCHO from an allochtonous source controlled BP (Richardot et al, 2000). Despite the importance of DOM at a pluriannual scale, diel fluctuations of polysaccharides during this study could not be related to the periodicity in BP, suggesting the presence of high concentrations of DOM components from other sources including viral lysis of bacterial and algal cells, excretion from protozoan, zooplankton and higher trophic level.…”
