This Book Series is devoted to examining and solving the major methodological problems social sciences are facing. Take for example the gap between empirical and theoretical research, the explanatory power of models, the relevance of multilevel analysis, the weakness of cumulative knowledge, the role of ordinary knowledge in the research process, or the place which should be reserved to "time, change and history" when explaining social facts. These problems are well known and yet they are seldom treated in depth in scientifi c literature because of their general nature. So that these problems may be examined and solutions found, the series prompts and fosters the setting-up of international multidisciplinary research teams, and it is work by these teams that appears in the Book Series. The series can also host books produced by a single author which follow the same objectives. Proposals for manuscripts and plans for collective books will be carefully examined. The epistemological scope of these methodological problems is obvious and resorting to Philosophy of Science becomes a necessity. The main objective of the Series remains however the methodological solutions that can be applied to the problems in hand. Therefore the books of the Series are closely connected to the research practices.

Traversée par une tension entre une logique d’attractivité et une logique de contrôle de l’immigration, l’internationalisation de l’enseignement supérieur pose désormais la question de la place donnée aux étudiants étrangers. En France, les étudiants algériens sont confrontés à un certain nombre de difficultés qui en font un groupe spécifique au sein de l’ensemble plus vaste des « étudiants étrangers ». Si ces contraintes contribuent à fabriquer un sentiment d’appartenance à une minorité ayant en partage une même expérience sociale de l’immigration/émigration, elles induisent en retour une redéfinition du sens géographique et social donné au projet et les amènent à réviser leurs attentes et plus largement leurs parcours migratoires. À la différence de leurs prédécesseurs migrants économiques, ils se mobilisent en effet pour une meilleure prise en compte de leurs droits dans le pays d’installation. Cette contribution cherche à montrer combien, pour cette génération nouvelle, les épreuves vécues s’accompagnent de la transformation progressive du sens donné à la mobilité estudiantine, faisant de celle-ci tout à la fois un révélateur et un activateur de nouvelles formes de reconnaissance politique.Caught in the tension between a logic of attraction and a logic of immigration control, the internationalization of higher education has begun to raise questions about the place accorded to foreign students. In France, Algerian students face particular difficulties which mark them out as a specific group within the larger category of “foreign students”. Although these constraints contribute to feelings of membership of a minority which has in common the same social experience of immigration/emigration, they also, by contrast, induce a redefining of the geographical and social meaning given to the migration project, and lead these students to revise their expectations and, more broadly, their migratory routes. Unlike their economic migrant predecessors, they mobilize for better respect for their rights in the host country. This article thus tries to show to what extent, for this new generation, the difficulties they experience entail a progressive transformation of the meaning given to student mobility, making this a phenomenon which reveals and at the same time activates new forms of political recognition
