Change of the initiation time of blood coagulation in pregnancy from 10-months to postpartum

Abstract: We measured the time of initiation of blood coagulation (Ti) from pregnancy 10-months (36∼40 weeks) till 1-month after delivery, paying particular attention to the very early postpartum period, using a damped oscillation rheometer that is approximately 160 times more sensitive than the Thromboelastogram ® to evaluate the risk of thrombus formation. Blood samples were obtained from healthy volunteers at pregnancy 10-month, 1-hour, 3-hours, 4-days, 7-days, 3-weeks and 1-month after delivery. Ti values at pregnan… Show more

“…Other important pathways enriched in the IL myometrium included those involved in hemostasis and extracellular matrix organization. Procoagulant factor-dependent activation increases immediately after placenta delivery to prevent excessive blood loss, while excessive coagulation increases the risk of venous thromboembolism in puerperal women ( 39 ). The results of our analysis indicate that the activity regulation of the coagulation system starts as early as labor.…”

“…Firstly, this physical characteristic of that membrane leads to a higher ultrafiltration rate and, consequently, to hemoconcentration inside the dialyzer ( 21 ). It is well known that the initial blood coagulation reaction could be accelerated under a hemoconcentration state ( 22 ). Interestingly, patients undergoing post-dilution hemodiafiltration that favors hemoconcentration within the dialyzer may need to increase the heparin dose ( 23 ).…”
