Cyclic AMP is a likely mediator of this response: an injection of dibutryl cyclic AMP or cholera toxin, an activator of adenylate cyclase, causes premature parturition (abortion) (Denlinger et al, 1978) and concentrations of cyclic AMP are elevated in both the female and larva at parturition (Denlinger et al, 1984).
