Change in cotton plant quality in response to application of anaerobically digested sewage sludge

Abstract: Treated municipal sewage sludge (TSS) was applied to the cotton plant at rates of 10, 20 and 30 t/ha per year. Seed cotton yield (71.4%), lint yield (67.7%) and cottonseed yield (74.1%) were increased significantly when sludge was applied at a rate of 30 t/ha (TSS3). The effects of TSS applications on seed yield, lint yield and cottonseed yield were listed as TSS3 > TSS2 > CF > TSS1 > C according to the applications. The increasing TSS levels had a positive effect and increased the total N concentration compar… Show more

“…This agrees the hypothesis that biosolids as sludge have a positive impact on promoting the K uptake. Tepecik et al [30] grow cotton plants in sewage sludge-amended soils from Turkey (20 t/ha). Authors emphasized the capacity of biosolids to enhance the K uptake due to the positive interactions between K ions and organic matter present in the sludge.…”

“…Biosolid-amended soils exhibit a notable Fe uptake in basil leaves, especially in voladora soil mixtures. Previous research Tepecik et al [30] reported that increasing the organic matter in biosolids enhances Fe chelation, making it more accessible for plant uptake, as it is incorporated with other organic compounds. Basil cultivated in voladora soil mixtures (Figure 10) contain a greater amount of Mn than plants cultivated in the coloso soil (Figure 9).…”

“…The cottonseeds contain approximately 18-25% oil, and 20-25% protein (Saxena et al, 2011). In this context, cottonseeds gain importance because of their nutritional value and different value-added product groups for the economy/society could be produced by using them (Wei et al, 2017;Tepecik et al, 2022). They have been widely evaluated as raw material in the oil industry.…”
