“…Incineration and gasification are the least preferred from a resource recovery perspective but are used for energy recovery. Finally, landfill is the worst disposal method from an environmental viewpoint [123,124]. The data obtained was insufficient to definitively differentiate between end-of-life methods.…”

“…The barriers to effective recycling are multifaceted. As infered from the studies it has been found that there is a noteworthy absence of commercially feasible technologies for recycling low-grade textile materials, which is mainly because the developed, large-scale processes for separating fibres in mixed and composite textiles [26][27][28] are not available inf abundance. It can also be found that, the high costs incurred by textile recovery method are present when combined with the presence of low-quality materials and mixes in the recycling market, that finally leave a considerable impact on the quality of the final product [29].…”

“…Under 1% of materials in clothing production are repurposed for new garments, with 73% to 87% ending up in landfills or being incinerated [1], contributing to significant environmental concerns like air pollution, soil contamination, and water pollution [2,3]. The textile industry faces a critical challenge as over 100 million tons of waste textiles are generated globally, exacerbating these environmental issues.…”
