Tourism represents an important determinant of global recognition and regional growth and development of the Republic of Croatia, especially the coastal part of the country. However, there is no doubt that any tourism activity has strong economic, socio-cultural, social, and environmental effects. Mass tourism brings numerous advantages. However, the growing concentration of tourists also leads to negative effects, of which residents are the most affected. Šibenik is a tourist town whose development is primarily based on tourism, and this destination, due to its centuries-old history and geographic location, is attractive to tourists. This paper aims to investigate the extent to which tourism affects the quality of life of the local population based on a preliminary survey of a sample of residents of the city of Šibenik. This paper aims to investigate in detail the practical aspects of tourism. The respondents’ perceptions and tourism’s real, tangible, and measurable effects will be analyzed to draw valuable conclusions. This approach enables a deeper understanding of the impact of tourism on various aspects of society and the environment.

Tourism development is linked to community-based transformation and growth, impacting the residents’ livelihoods. The study aimed to comprehensively understand locals’ perspectives on tourism development. The study mainly focused on identifying the factors that influence these perspectives and assessing their implications for sustainable tourism planning and management, using Yaoundé in Cameroon as a case study. Employing a quantitative survey research design, the study collected data from 385 locals using non-probability convenience sampling. Key findings revealed that positive perceptions of tourism development are linked to benefits. As residents benefit economically and socially from tourism, they desire increased tourist arrivals and see tourism as having positive impacts. A gap between training and participation in conservancy was identified, suggesting a major implication of the need to incorporate local voices in tourism planning and policies for more sustainable and inclusive growth of the tourism industry. By exposing factors that influence locals’ perspectives and assessing the implications for sustainable tourism management and planning, the study contributes to the literature and provides valuable insights to inform decision-making in the tourism industry.

This study aims to examine the influence of tourism entrepreneurial activity, sustainable tourism development, tourism based on local wisdom, local economic development, and tourism resources/cultural resources on poverty alleviation. In addition, this study also examines the mediating and moderating variables of local economic development and cultural resources, respectively. Questionnaires were distributed online to 110 communities in Bali, Indonesia. Furthermore, the data were analyzed using Partial least squares (PLS). Based on local wisdom, local economic development, and tourism resources, the research findings demonstrate that tourism directly influences poverty alleviation. However, tourism entrepreneurial activity and sustainable tourism development do not affect poverty alleviation. Meanwhile, the relationship between tourism entrepreneurial activity, sustainable tourism development, tourism based on local wisdom, and local economic development is positive and significant. While the moderating variable proved negative in the relationship between the variables, the mediating variable showed the opposite result. This study can theoretically contribute to several factors that can be determinants of poverty alleviation, especially related to the development of tourism based on local wisdom, local economic development, and tourism resources or cultural resources.
