Africans are leaving a period of increased unpredictability of new and emerging crises, from the pandemic to war and climate catastrophes. Only if we invest in boosting our capacity to respond to various crises will Africans be able to survive and thrive. Ethiopia is pursuing diversification of its food and nutrition security. However, preparation and consumption problems contribute to a health risk linked to malnutrition. Thus, the purpose of this review is to scrutinize preparation methods, evaluate nutrient losses, and outline future agendas. Vegetable preparation is neglected in Ethiopia, and the methods, cooking standards, and nutrient loss are all not identified. Likewise, the health risks and fate of malnutrition in the country are increasing extraordinarily. Ethiopian traditions of vegetable cooking are not supported by technology, food makers are not equipped with training, and the government is not concerned about the problems. Vitamins and minerals are entirely lost from vegetables during the cooking process, leading to the development of health risks such as stunting, wasting, and underweight problems. The government does not monitor, check, and evaluate cooked vegetables. Hence, Ethiopia should set cooking standards, and of all methods scrutinized, 2-5 minutes (leafy), 5-10 minutes (roots and tubers), and 3-8 minutes (stem) are recommended by many scholars as the standard for cooking vegetables.

Disaster mobilities, temporalities, and recovery: experiences of the tsunami in the Maldives

Large‐scale disasters are frequently portrayed as temporally bounded, linear events after which survivors are encouraged to ‘move on’ as quickly as possible. In this paper, we explore how understandings of disaster mobilities and temporalities challenge such perspectives. Drawing on empirical research undertaken on Dhuvaafaru in the Maldives, a small island uninhabited until 2009 when it was populated by people displaced by the Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004, we examine what such understandings mean in the context of sudden population displacement followed by prolonged resettlement. The study reveals the diversity of disaster mobilities, how these reflect varied and complex temporalities of past, present, and future, and how processes of disaster recovery are temporally extended, uncertain, and often linger. In addition, the paper shows how attending to these dynamics contributes to understandings of how post‐disaster settlement brings stability for some people while producing ongoing feelings of loss, longing, and unsettlement in others.

Letusan gunung berapi adalah suatu reaksi vulkanik yang dikenal dengan kata erupsi. Bahaya yang disebabkan oleh letusan gunung berapi adalah berupa awan panas, lontaran material, hujan batu, lava, gas beracun dan banjir lahar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakteristik responden yaitu usia dan jenis kelamin serta adakah pengaruh pendidikan kesehatan tentang erupsi gunung berapi terhadap kesiapsiagaan siswa di SD Sanjaya Tritis Purwobinangun, Pakem, Sleman, Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta Jenis penelitian ini adalah quasi experiment pre and post test without control dengan teknik sampling yaitu non probability sampling dengan metode total sampling. Responden pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas 2, 3, 4 dan 5. Total populasi pada penelitian ini yaitu 45 responden. Analisa menggunakan uji Wilcoxon test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan nilai rata-rata kesiapsiagaan sebelum dan sesudah diberikan pendidikan kesehatan tentang erupsi gunung berapi yaitu 76,00 dan 84,00. Uji statistik menunjukkan p-value 0,000. Karakteristik usia pada responden yang paling banyak adalah responden yang berusia 10, karakteristik jenis kelamin responden laki-laki lebih banyak daripada responden perempuan dan terdapat pengaruh pendidikan kesehatan tentang erupsi gunung berapi terhadap kesiapsiagaan siswa di Sekolah Dasar Sanjaya Tritis.
