Challenges and opportunities in automotive transmission control

Abstract: Automotive transmission is a key element in the powertrain that connects the power source to the wheels of a vehicle. To improve fuel economy, reduce emission and enhance driving performance, many new technologies have been introduced in the transmission area in recent years. This paper first reviews different types of automotive transmissions and explains their unique control characteristics. We then address the challenges facing automotive transmission control from three aspects: calibration, shift schedulin… Show more

“…The hidden layer is a bridge between the output layers. In most cases, the number of nodes in the hidden layer can be obtained according to the accumulated extensive experience of past designers. The number of nodes in the hidden layer is calculated in accordance with the rounding and the value is 7.The relationship can be expressed by [7] (1) Where S is the hidden layer node,M is the input layer node and N is the output layer node.…”

“…The automatic clutch system is formed by adding the automatic actuator based on the dry clutch. It is more and more used in automatic mechanical transmission (AMT), 1 dual-clutch transmission (DCT), 2 and automatic transmission (AT) 3 because of its advantages of no driver intervention and high control precision. As the core component of the automatic clutch, the types of clutch actuators are diversified, such as electromechanical type, 4,5 electro-pneumatic type, 6,7 and electro-hydraulic type.…”
