Chalcogen Tailoring of Cobalt‐Based Electrocatalytic Materials

Abstract

This article summarizes the latest developments on cobalt‐based chalcogenide nanostructured materials including sulfides, selenides, and tellurides. This materials family presents an interesting perspective in devices for energy conversion and storage. The main electrochemical processes are the fuel‐cell reactions oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) as well as the electrolyzer reactions oxygen evolution reaction (OER) and hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The various design strategies and undertaken chemical routes of synthesis have been summarized. This approach gives an idea of the challenging tasks, explored so far in various laboratories devoted to nonprecious metal centers electrocatalysts in the world, to obtain highly active and stable materials in combination with the nature of the catalysts' supports.
