Chain sampling plan for variables inspection

Abstract: This paper extends the concept of chain sampling to variables inspection when the standard deviation of the normally distributed characteristic is known. A discussion of the shape of the known sigma single-sampling variables plan is given. The chain sampling plan for variables inspection will be useful when testing is costly or destructive.

“…The operating procedure and characteristics of the attributes ChSP can be seen in Dodge (1955). Govindaraju and Balamurali (1998) extended the concept of chain sampling to variables inspection. Balamurali and Usha (2013) developed tables for the selection of optimal parameters of variables ChSP.…”

“…Attribute plans are easy to implement while variable plans are more informative than attribute sampling plans. “…To overcome this disadvantage, Govindaraju and Balamurali (1998) expanded the operational notion of attributes chain sampling to the variables inspection strategy. Later, Balamurali and Jun (2007) broadened the concept of attributes MDS into variables MDS and assumed a normally distributed quality characteristic with a unilateral specification limit.…”
