CFD Simulation of He/CH4 Separation by Hyflon AD60X Membrane

Abstract: In this research, the membrane separation process was used to separate helium from methane gas. In order to do this, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was used, and the effect of process parameters on the performance of the membrane separation process was studied by this method. To simulate the hydrodynamics of flow in the channel, the Navier-Stokes equation was used, and the Maxwell-Stefan equation was applied to simulate the mass transfer phenomenon. In addition, Fick's law was utilized to simulate mass tra… Show more

“…Due to the low coating concentration, from the two cross-sectional SEM images on the right, there was no obvious dense layer on the cross-section near the surface of Hyflon AD40H-modified membrane compared to the pristine membrane. During the process of gas passing through a membrane containing fluoropolymer, the inlet pressure is positively correlated with the flow rate, which is to say that the pressure is positively correlated with the flux [40]. Therefore, we chose to measure the permeation flux of the membrane at the same initial pressure (0.1 MPa).…”

“…Among the numerical studies for the fluid flow throughout the HFMCs, computational fluid dynamics (CFD) is an efficient method to reduce the economic cost of experimental works [67][68][69][70][71]. In this study, the HFMC process was used for CO 2 separation from the gas stream equipped by two different types of PP-based hollow-fiber membranes and using MEA as the CO 2 absorber.…”
