“…The flow of fluid in the drip irrigation tube (tape) was laminar flow, the sheer stress of which was low, so it was easy for the growth of biofilms, instead of detachment. The water flow in labyrinth path was turbulence (Li et al 2008), the sheer stress of which was high, and it was difficult for the growth of biofilms, but for detachment. The inlet and outlet of emitters, where the sheer stresses were low, were the areas easy for the growth of biofilms.…”

“…Emitter clogging has become the major problem limiting more widespread use of drip irrigation, because it can reduce the service life and benefits of a drip irrigation system. Since the first drip irrigation conference was held in Israel (Goldberg 1976), a large number of researchers have attempted to solve the problem from many aspects (Adin and Sacks 1991;Ravina et al 1992Ravina et al , 1997Capra and Scicolone 2004;Taylor et al 1995;Liu and Huang 2009;Li et al 2008), such as, rational filtration equipment, periodic acidification and chlorination treatment, and optimal design of labyrinth path of drip irrigation emitters. But the mechanisms and regulation patterns of the emitters clogging are still not clear.…”
