“…As the B sites could be increased by the insertion of H + ion during the leaching treatments (Feng et al 1999), this would account for the increasing adsorption capacity of NMO toward Co 2+ . This is consistent with recent results reported by 2D-IR correlation spectroscopy (Al Lafi and Al Abdullah 2015). According to the two-site heterogeneous model for site affinity, the adsorption maxima of ions investigated suggest a model where Co 2+ shows very limited access to the edge sites that have higher affinity/binding energy in comparison with interlayer sites (Wang et al 2012b).…”

“…Since then, MnO 2 has been widely studied as a sorbents for divalent cations, such as Sr 2+ , Co 2+ , UO 2 2+ , Cu 2+ , Cd 2+ , Pb 2+ and Zn 2+ [11][12][13][14][15]. The typical K d value for Sr 2+ adsorbed onto MnO 2 is reported to be 100 mL/g [9,16], and the adsorption capacity of Co 2+ onto synthetic nano-manganese oxide is as high as 25 mg/g [11]. This shows that MnO 2 has good adsorption properties both for Sr 2+ and Co 2+ ions.…”

“…All of these changes were consistent with the binding of Pb 2+ ions with the grafted polymer. The disappearance of the hydroxyl band at 3400 cm −1 indicated an ion‐exchange reaction, and the shifting of the band at 1550 to 1530 cm −1 may have indicated complex formation . The reduction in the intensity of the two bands at 1530 and 1400 cm −1 with increasing metal‐ion loading may have indicated the presence of interactions between these groups and the absorbed metal ion.…”

“…The adsorption mechanism of lead ions and their coordination to functional groups in the grafted polymers was also investigated. 2D‐COS, which was introduced to vibrational spectroscopy by Noda, has been applied to wide range of analytical spectroscopies . The use of 2D‐COS simplifies complex spectra and improves spectral resolution through the spreading of peaks over a second dimension.…”
