Cervicitis: a review

Abstract: As our understanding of the aetiology and significance of cervicitis, particularly nonspecific cervicitis, improves, management will be refined. Advances in molecular diagnostic testing will facilitate this process, but urinary nucleic acid amplification testing should not replace clinical examination while cervicitis prevalence and significance is not yet established. A standardized approach to cervicitis research, particularly with consensus of case definition, may facilitate outcomes that can be more genera… Show more

“…Hence, timely and correct diagnosis is essential as improper diagnosis and incorrect management can lead to serious consequences like PID, cervical neoplasias, infertility and adverse outcomes of pregnancy and new born [2,5]. It is also associated with increased shedding of HIV-1 from the cervix in the absence of chlamydial and gonococcal infection [12].…”

“…6 Sexually transmitted infections and cancer impact significantly on global health and cervical cancer is the second most prevalent cancer in women worldwide. 1,7 A substantial body of evidence supports the conclusion that chronic inflammation can predispose an individual to cancer, the longer the inflammation persists, the higher the risk of associated carcinogenesis. 3 Most of the cervical carcinomas are associated with human papilloma-virus (HPV) as rate of HPV and HIV infection in chronic cervicitis cases is much higher as observed by Ealhe, Atsuki et al in his study of CSC noticed that interactions between MSCs and tumor cells in tumor tissues could become a new cancer therapy target.…”

“…It can divide and differentiate into diverse specialized cell types and can self-renew to produce more stem cells. 1,4 SCT is like exploiting the natural potential of body. MSCs can home to nearly all inflammation sites, including ischemic myocardial tissues and wounded skin regions and once arriving at the site and surrounded by particular type of body tissue and chemicals the ASCs naturally recognise the need and purpose of their existence and trans differentiate into the tissue of homing.…”
