“…It can be concluded from these data that PFE is appropriate for the quantitative extraction and determination of PCB congeners and chlorinated pesticides in a complex biological matrix such as fish tissue. Low Soxhlet extraction efficiencies relative to PFE extraction have been observed for PAHs associated with combustion samples [39] indicating the extraction method can be matrix dependent in some instances.…”

“…The first set of results in this study was obtained using the 5% phenyl methylpolysiloxane column that has typically been used for PAH and nitro-PAH measurements. Recently, the 50% phenyl methylpolysiloxane has been shown to provide better selectivity for the separation of several critical pairs of PAH isomers [26,33], and therefore this stationary phase was evaluated for the separation of nitro-PAH isomers, particularly the 2-nitrofluoranthene and the 3-nitrofluoranthene, which coelute on the 5% phenyl methylpolysiloxane phase. A detailed comparison and discussion of the 50% phenyl and 5% phenyl methylpolysiloxane phases for the separation of nitro-PAH isomers is described elsewhere [32].…”

“…This material was reissued in 2000 as SRM 1650a Diesel Particulate Matter [25]. The analytical methods and results used for the value assignment of the PAHs in SRM 1650a are described in Poster et al [26].…”

“…SRM 1650b was analyzed to confirm that the bulk diesel particulate matter was unchanged since SRM 1650 and SRM 1650a were characterized. SRM 1650b complements two other diesel particulaterelated SRMs that are currently available (Poster et al, 2003c(Poster et al, , 1999a: SRM 2975, Diesel Particulate Matter (Industrial Forklift) and SRM 1975, Diesel Particulate Extract, which is a dichloromethane extract of the same material used to prepare SRM 2975. Selected PAH concentrations in SRM 1650b are presented in Table 3.…”
