Hydrocephalus is a known disease from ancient times. Despite ongoing attempts to achieve optimal management of the disorder, there are still challenges for cerebrospinal fluid shunting procedures. The etiologies, diagnostic studies, surgical treatment, and a historical review of hydrocephalus are presented.
ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGYUnder normal circumstances, ultrafiltration through capillary endothelial walls of choroids plexus produces CSF. Na/K ATPase, on the apical membrane of choroids plexus epithelium plays the decisive role in CSF secretion. 9-11 Much of the secreted fluid is reabsorbed
