Cerebral Blindness due to Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis

Abstract: A 21-year-old woman presented with acute cerebral blindness. Magnetic resonance imaging confirmed the cause to be acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, which has not previously been reported to cause cerebral blindness. She failed to respond to intravenous corticosteroids but made a partial recovery following plasma exchange, highlighting the utility of this treatment in acute corticosteroid-refractory central nervous system inflammatory diseases.
