Centrality and transverse momentum dependence of D0 -meson production at mid-rapidity in Au + Au collisions at sNN=200 GeV

Abstract: We report a new measurement of D 0-meson production at mid-rapidity (|y| < 1) in Au+Au collisions at √ sNN = 200 GeV utilizing the Heavy Flavor Tracker, a high resolution silicon detector at the STAR experiment. Invariant yields of D 0-mesons with transverse momentum pT 9 GeV/c are reported in various centrality bins (0-10%, 10-20%, 20-40%, 40-60% and 60-80%). Blast-Wave thermal models are used to fit the D 0-meson pT spectra to study D 0 hadron kinetic freeze-out properties. The average radial flow velocity e… Show more

“…Both D 0 and D ± are significantly suppressed in high-p T region which suggests a significant energy loss of charm quarks in the QGP. The low to intermediate p T bump structure is consistent with predictions of models incorporating large collective flow of charm quarks [15]. STAR has also measured and published the elliptic flow (v 2 ) of D 0 mesons using 2014 data [17].…”

“…where N evt is number of recorded MB events, BR is the branching ratio (see Table 1) and ε(p T ) is the total reconstruction efficiency calculated using the data-driven fast-simulator. More details about the efficiency calculation can be found in article [15]. An example of reconstruction efficiency of D ± mesons in 0%-10% central Au+Au collisions extracted with selection criteria from Table 2 is shown in Figure 3.…”

“…The D 0 meson AA measured in three collision centrality intervals is shown in Fig. 1 (left) [6]. At high transverse momentum, T , the yields are greatly suppressed in central collisions, indicating that charm quarks lose a significant amount of energy in the QGP.…”
