Central retinal artery occlusion in patient with microscopic polyangiitis

Show more

“…Summary of past studies reporting pANCA vasculitides with retinal vascular occlusions. 6,8,[9][10][11][12][13] In sum, though rare, ANCA-related vasculitis should be considered in any retinal vascular occlusion, particularly in the setting of patients with new vague headaches and a paucity of vasculopathic risk factors. Even with modernday therapy, relapse rates over 5 years are as high as 50% when renal involvement begins, so these patients need close follow-up with rheumatology.…”

“…3,5,6,8 The literature reports two cases each of central retinal vein occlusions, branch retinal vein occlusions, and central retinal artery occlusions secondary to pANCA vasculitis (Table 1). 6,8 This case highlights a cilioretinal artery occlusion associated with pANCA vasculitis. While rarely associated with retinal vascular occlusions, ANCA vasculitis was considered in this patient due to an unexplained retinal infarction in a relatively healthy patient with ill-defined headache symptoms.…”
