“…Due to the low degree of innovation of design patents, GTI in this paper mainly includes green invention innovation (GII) and green utility model innovation (GUMI). Compared with GUMI, GII represents higher patent quality and technological content, which belongs to value-creating GTI [24]. Based on the differences in the value of GII and GUMI and existing study findings, this paper argues that the impacts of GII and GUMI on regional EG and SP also vary.…”

“…Since PVAR estimation requires the analysis of data relationships over a long period, this paper examined the relationships between variables using panel data of 30 Chinese provinces and regions (Tibet, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan are excluded) from 1998 to 2020. Specifically, provincial and regional GTI levels were measured by the number of green patents of each province and region in different years, which were obtained manually from the patent search platform of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) [24]. SP data are represented by raster data published by NASA's M2TMNXAER (version 5.12.4) [5].…”

“…Although environmental regulation can hurt firms' innovation and investment in general, the literature also shows that environmental regulation can improve green technology by stimulating and motivating green innovation and inducing investment in green technology (Kesidou and Wu, 2020). Qi et al (2022) demonstrated that CEPI policy enhanced green technology innovation through the expenditure of environmental protection and research investment.…”

“…Uncertainty regarding economic policy can affect one region within the context of a green economy, but its effects can also extend to neighboring regions. The potential consequences of this spatial spillover effect on green technology innovation, green investment, and carbon emission control are substantial (Qi et al, 2022) [39] . The economic connections between regions are becoming more interconnected in the era of globalization, and the progress made in one region frequently influences the progress made in others.…”
