Central Corneal Thickness in Congenital Glaucoma

Abstract: CCT was significantly thinner in glaucomatous eyes than in normal fellow eyes in phakic children with congenital glaucoma. This finding may be another confounding factor when measuring IOP in these patients.

“…Wygnanski-Jaffe and Barequet21 reported nine congenital glaucoma cases with thinner CCT in the eye with the more severe glaucomatous damage in bilateral cases or in the glaucomatous eye compared with the normal fellow eye in unilateral glaucoma cases. These findings were explained by the corneal stretching and/or scarring.…”

“…Pachymetry measurements have been made in children with congenital glaucoma and in patients with congenital cataracts. The CCT was found to be significantly thinner in nine eyes of patients with congenital glaucoma compared with the normal eye (mean, 57 mm thinner) [10]. This would mean that the measured IOP could underrepresent the true IOP by 2-3 mmHg.…”
