Cementless Metaphyseal Sleeve Fixation in Revision Knee Arthroplasty: Our Experience with an Arabic Population at the Midterm

Abstract: Objective. Metaphyseal sleeve (MS) fixation in revision knee arthroplasty (RKA) among Western populations has been reported with very encouraging outcomes. The aim of this study was to report our experience with the use of MS in RKA among an Arabic population. Clinical and radiographic outcomes and implant survivorship were reported at a minimum follow-up of 2 years and a mean follow-up of 4.1 years. Methods. A retrospective analysis was conducted on prospectively collected data of patients who underwent RKA w… Show more

“…Surgical technique involves reaming the host bone to accept compaction broaches which are sequentially increased in size until rotational and axial stability is achieved during on-table testing [ 11 ]. The sleeves can be used with or without an intramedullary stem, which, in itself, can be cemented or press-fit [ 12 ]. If there is significant deformity in the bone, the sleeve can be used with no stem to gain the optimal alignment.…”

“…Algarni et al. investigated outcomes associated with rTKA by reviewing 52 knees that required a metaphyseal sleeve with a cementless tibial or femoral stem from 2012 to 2018 [ 58 ]. The mean follow-up time was 4.1 years (range 2.0–7.5 years) with a minimum follow-up of 2 years.…”
