Cellulose Nanofibril Based-Aerogel Microreactors: A High Efficiency and Easy Recoverable W/O/W Membrane Separation System

Abstract: Hereby we report a novel cellulose nanofirbril aerogel-based W/O/W microreactor system that can be used for fast and high efficient molecule or ions extraction and separation. The ultra-light cellulose nanofibril based aerogel microspheres with high porous structure and water storage capacity were prepared. The aerogel microspheres that were saturated with stripping solution were dispersed in an oil phase to form a stable water-in-oil (W/O) suspension. This suspension was then dispersed in large amount of exte… Show more

“…It also changed the hydrophobicity, rendering the material suitable for chloroform separation from water. TEMPO-oxidized CNFs have been shaped into aerogel microspheres using polyamide-epichlorohydrin resin as a crosslinker 242 . These aerogels were capable of adsorbing 120 g/g H 2 O and could be used to extract phenol and copper.…”

“…This process is spontaneous and entropically driven, and has been used by several groups to assemble cellulose‐based hydrogels . In fact, there is considerable interest in CNC‐based gels as they are attractive materials for separation/purification purposes, drug‐delivery, sensing, thermal insulation, tissue engineering, and 3D printing …”
