Cellulose I Nanolayers Designed by Self‐Assembly of its Thiosemicarbazone on a Gold Substrate

Abstract: A biomimetic cellulose I nanolayer with a parallel chain alignment was successfully designed through the chemoselective modification of cellulose and self‐assembly of its thiosemicarbazone on a gold substrate (see figure). This is the first time replication of the crystalline structure of native cellulose, that is, cellulose I, in the layer state has been achieved.
