Cellular automata over generalized Cayley graphs

Abstract: Abstract. Cayley graphs have a number of useful features: the ability to graphically represent finitely generated group elements and their relations; to name all vertices relative to a point; and the fact that they have a well-defined notion of translation. We propose a notion of graph associated to a language, which conserves or generalizes these features. Whereas Cayley graphs are very regular; associated graphs are arbitrary, although of a bounded degree. Moreover, it is well-known that cellular automata ca… Show more

“…The criterion prevents from intuitively non-local behavior like collapsing non-empty graphs to a single vertex. From that point of view, incremental global transformations follow the research direction of causal graph dynamics [1]. In this work any produced matter (vertex or edge) in the output is attached to an element of the input graph and a particular attention is put on the fact that two rule instances cannot produced a common fresh piece of matter.…”

“…The analogy between this result and Proposition 1 above raises the question whether the other results of [1] have counterparts in the present abstract setting. A different abstract perspective on this idea, based on topology, is presented in [2,3]; this may aid the comparison with [1]. To facilitate this study, a full version of the present work containing more detailed proofs and examples will be presented in a forthcoming paper.…”

“…Graphs, pointed graphs modulo and their operations are intuitive enough as summarized here, but they have been introduced several times before (see for instance [2]). Let π be a finite set, Π = π 2 , and V some universe of names.…”
