Cellular adaptation through fitness-directed transcriptional tuning

Abstract: Cells adapt to changes in their environment through transcriptional responses that are hard-coded in their regulatory networks. Such dedicated pathways, however, may be inadequate for adaptation to novel or extreme environments.
